Your neck: why it's so important to be able to turn it all the way
c.2003 Stephen J. Kaufman, D.C.
Many people have lost part of the ability to turn their head all the way. This can cause a lot of neck pain ,and many other symptoms as well. Older folks frequently have very limited motion in their neck, while children and young people can usually turn their heads very far. Dr. Kaufman has developed a technique which is extraordinarily effective at restoring increased movement and flexibility to the neck, and relieving pain! This is done completely without "popping " the neck; many of our patients don't like that. Dr. Kaufman's technique is extremely gentle, with no force or "cracking" whatsoever. For more information, click "neck pain".
By returning lost motion it sets the clock back to where your neck was years ago! Many , many patients have had their flexibility restored instantly; it is very dramatic to see. Even patients who have not had full ability to turn their heads in many years have quickly improved, including a number of people with old scar tissue and fractures. All of the blood vessels to the brain come up through the neck. If the neck is not free to turn completely, it can cause a reduction in blood flow into the head (I personally need all the blood up there I can get.) All of the nerves from the brain to the entire body come through the neck. If the neck is restricted it can cause interference with nerve function, or pain.
The following symptoms can be caused or aggravated by tense neck muscles and restrictions in the vertebrae;
·
Neck pain including disc problems
·
Shoulder and arm pain
·
Cervical disc problems
·
Dizziness and vertigo
·
TMJ pain and stiffness
·
Headaches
·
High blood pressure (Patients
with high blood pressure frequently have very stiff necks. They can't turn their
heads all the way. As this treatment
restores neck motion their blood pressure often lowers immediately!)
·
Tiredness and fatigue
·
Sinus problems and infections
·
Thyroid problems
·
Eye infections
·
Allergies and hay fever
·
Facial pain
·
Sleep difficulties (insomnia)
· Low back pain and more.
· Some visual problems can be affected by neck muscles.
